How To Grow Zamnesia Magic Mushroom Grow Kits

Here are our simple and easy instructions for growing your mushrooms using the Zamnesia Grow Kit. Follow these instructions precisely.

Before we get to the main part, let's have a closer look at the content of our grow kits. They are filled with 100% colonized rye to allow for the biggest possible yields. These kits are ready to use directly after arriving at your doorstep—there is no soaking required before you place them in the grow bag. There are only two things you need in order to grow the first flush: an atomizer to mist them once or twice per day, and a little patience.

We highly recommend you start the growing process immediately after receiving your kit. If you don't want to (or can’t) grow right away, you will need to put your kit in the refrigerator—3–5°C will keep it in “hibernation mode”. At this temperature, the grow kit can be stored for a maximum of 3 to 4 weeks. Important: if you store it, keep the grow kit in an airtight plastic bag to prevent contamination.

OK, now that we have covered the basics, let's move on to the actual task of waking up the sleeping magic ambassador.

You will need:

  • A misting bottle

  • Clean tap water or mineral water

  • A bright spot to place the kit in (not in direct sunlight)

Get them going:

STEP 1

Remove the lid from the grow kit and clean it under running water. Don't throw it away, you will need the lid later.

STEP 5

Magic mushrooms like warm conditions—try to keep the temperature at about 23–24°C. The absolute minimum is 18°C, and the maximum is 30°C. Optimal relative humidity should be at 85–95%.

Note: up to 90% of the fruit body of a mushroom consists of water, hence mycelium requires plenty of water to produce mushrooms. In order to ensure a sufficient amount of water, you should mist the interior of the grow bag once or twice a day. Do not spray the water on the substrate, try and apply it only to the inner surface of the bag.

Depending on the growing conditions and strain type, it can take anytime between 5 days to 2 weeks before you see the first tiny pins. Temperatures below/above the ideal values will slow down the development of fruit bodies.

Harvesting

When handling your grow kit, you should keep an eye on cleanliness. Before taking the grow kit out of the grow bag to harvest your mushrooms, you should always wash your hands (and to be on the safe side, your arms). Be meticulous, wash your hands with soap, use a disinfectant gel afterwards, and slip sterile gloves on to prevent contamination. Wearing a face mask is also a good idea.

The best moment to pick the mushrooms is just before the veils underneath the caps start to tear. If you wait too long the spores will be released. (At this point the mushooms will still be fine for consumption, but the spores will affect the mycelium and can ruin the next flush.) Try and grab the stem at the very bottom (just above the substrate) and gently twist and pull to detach the mushroom from the rye block. Do not simply pull it out, as this can cause damage and slow down the development of the next flush. Remember, even though mushrooms are simple forms of life, a wound will always cause them to first put their efforts into healing before they “think” about reproduction.

STEP 6

After harvesting the first flush, the kit is capable of producing more flushes. The substrate is not exhausted, but the mycelium requires fresh water and some “incentive” to produce more fruit bodies. Fill the cultivation box with cold water (from the tap, as cold as it gets) to simulate a late autumn rain. This cold shock will stimulate the mycelium to produce more fruit bodies to guarantee continued existence of its species. Put the lid back on the grow kit (we told you to keep it), and place it in a cool place (the refrigerator is not a bad idea). After 12 hours, take the kit and open one corner of the lid to pour out the excess water.

Now all you need to do is clean and store the lid and continue from step 2 again. You should be well on your way to another harvest of bountiful magic goodness! This process can be repeated multiple times.
