Digestion Supplements

Six products sit on this digestion shelf and not one of them is a probiotic capsule. What you get instead is psyllium husk, near enough pure soluble fibre from Plantago ovata, two green algae powders, a turmeric and orthosiphon capsule, a Brazilian mushroom in capsule form and a loose ginger chai. Below is what each one actually contains, and the dose printed on the label.

What's on the digestion shelf, and what isn't

This is a small, specific shelf: fibre, two green algae, a herbal capsule, one mushroom and a tea. Six products, four formats. Before you read on, the useful bit of honesty is what is missing, because two of the things people search for on a digestion page are not here at all.

How these digestion supplements support your gut

Probiotics and gut flora: the gap on this shelf

Probiotics are the first thing most people look for when they think about gut flora and the microbiome. We do not stock them in this category, and we would rather say that than point you at a substitute and hope. Nothing on this page contains live cultures, and nothing here is a prebiotic fibre blend sold as one.

Digestive enzymes, and why you will not find any here

Same answer, shorter: no enzyme capsules either. What the shelf does instead is fibre, plant material and algae, which is a different job. If enzymes are specifically what you came for, this is not the page.

Fibre and psyllium husk: drink it before it sets

Psyllium Husk Organic is husk from the seeds of Plantago ovata and close to pure soluble fibre. The label says 3 to 5 grams a day, stirred into a glass of water, a smoothie or a dish. One practical warning: it thickens fast. Leave the glass on the counter while you answer the door and you come back to something closer to jelly than a drink. Our Chia Seeds do the same soaking job slowly enough that you can eat them off a spoon, which is the real trade between the two.

Herbal digestive aids, algae, and one Brazilian mushroom

The Turmeric & Orthosiphon Capsules carry 600mg of Curcuma longa rhizome and 600mg of orthosiphon leaf per daily dose of three VCAPS, so 1200mg in total. Orthosiphon aristatus is the plant people call cat's whisker, native to Africa and now grown across Asia and Australia. Chlorella Organic Powder is Chlorella vulgaris, one of more than 30 Chlorella species, up to 60% complete protein, meaning all nine essential amino acids, plus B and C vitamins, zinc, magnesium, potassium and omega-3. It also tastes emphatically of pond, which is why Chlorella & Spirulina exists as a tablet you swallow instead of taste. Agaricus Blazei Mushroom Capsules from Foodsporen use 100% fruiting bodies and no animal ingredients; the same species turns up at 80mg of extract per capsule in Power 5. And Ginger Chai Tea is loose black tea with ginger, peppery and lightly sweet, brewing to a pale amber, with caffeine in it, so it belongs to your morning.

How to choose the right digestive supplement

Work backwards from your routine rather than the ingredient. If you will genuinely stir something into water every morning, the psyllium is the cheapest way to find out and the only product here with an exact dose printed on the pack. If you know you will not, buy a capsule or a tablet, because a powder you avoid does nothing. If you want the greens without the taste, the tablet beats the powder; if you want breadth instead of two algae, Greens Complete covers 27 fruits and vegetables over in the superfood range.

Digestion supplements FAQ

What is actually in this digestion range?

Six products: organic psyllium husk from Plantago ovata, chlorella powder, a chlorella and spirulina tablet, turmeric and orthosiphon capsules at 1200mg per daily dose, Agaricus blazei mushroom capsules, and a loose ginger chai tea. Four formats in total: powder, tablet, capsule and loose leaf.

Do you sell probiotics or digestive enzymes?

Not in this category. None of the six products contains live cultures, and there is no enzyme blend here. If that is specifically what you are after, this is not the right page.

How much psyllium husk do you take, and how?

The label says 3 to 5 grams a day, stirred into a glass of water, a smoothie or a dish. Drink it straight away, because it thickens quickly. Keep the pack sealed somewhere cool, dark and dry once opened.
