Zamnesia - Wild Dagga: Mild Psychoactive Effects And Relaxation

Wild dagga (Leonotis leonurus) is a common shrub found all over South Africa. The plant can reach heights up to 2m, drawing attention with her tubular-shaped, bright orange flowers. The petals look somewhat like a lion’s tail, which explains the nickname.

Wild dagga has a long history of being used as a medicinal plant by native tribes of South Africa. The plant is mildly hallucinogenic and can produce effects comparable to cannabis, although milder. In areas where smoking cannabis is illegal, wild dagga is often used as an alternative. In order to achieve similar effects to smoking weed, wild dagga is mixed with tobacco or prepared with kanna, a plant with euphoric and mood-boosting effects.

The flowers and leaves of wild dagga can be dried and consumed. The plant induces a relaxing effect, complemented with a slight sense of euphoria. By no means as potent, wild dagga produces sensations evocative of cannabis.

It is not difficult to grow wild dagga from seed. The plant is pretty low-maintenance and grows fast and vigorously. Planted outdoors, she will flower in early autumn. You can also plant your seeds in flower pots and move the plants outside in spring when there is no danger of frost.

Although wild dagga doesn’t have any special requirements for soil, it is best to use a well-draining medium. This plant loves all the sun she can get, so you’ll want to place her in a spot that receives full sun during the day. Water only sparingly.

One way to use wild dagga is to make a tea. Simply steep one or two teaspoons of dried flowers in hot water for 3-5 minutes, then drink. You can also smoke dried wild dagga leaves and flowers together with your favourite strain of cannabis to receive a synergistic effect from both!
