Kra Thum Khok - Mitragyna hirsuta, another close relative of Mitragyna speciosa
Kra Thum Khok, botanical name Mitragyna hirsuta is a close relative of Mitragyna speciosa (commonly known as Kratom) and causes a very similar range of effects - just like speciosa it acts paradoxical: It is both stimulating and sedating at the same time. The alkaloids isolated from the leaves of Mitragyna hirsuta have been identified as hirsutine, rhynchophylline, isorhynchophylline and mitraphylline.
How to use Mitragyna hirsuta
To prepare a tea, take 20 grams for one cup of hot water and let the concoction steep for 30 minutes. Beginners should use 15 grams (be warned, the effects come on rather quickly and last several hours). Then slowly drink the brew over the course of 30 minutes.
