Boerejongens Amsterdam Coffeeshop

Amsterdam Genetics is an Amsterdam-based seed shop founded by Mariska, one of the leading female entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry.

Mariska made her debut in Holland’s cannabis scene in the early 1990s when she took on a job at a coffeeshop in Amsterdam while still studying.

“When I had to make a definitive career choice, I chose the cannabis industry,” she said in an interview with Leafly.

“I literally took the Yellow Pages and my finger landed on a company specializing in nutrients for cannabis. Thus, my adventure began. I learned all about the breeding, growing, and harvesting process, from the clone until the harvest,” Mariska said.

A few years later she’d buy her own coffeeshop, which would become the first Boerejongens in Amsterdam and challenge the norms of the whole coffeeshop scene in the city.

Step into Boerejongens and you’ll feel as if you just entered an upscale wine boutique; the store boasts stunning marble counters, solid hardwood floors, and beautiful wooden cabinets complete with glass shelves.

The staff behind the counters are friendly, professional and, most importantly, extremely knowledgeable about the product they’re selling. They also take at least 3 continuing education courses every year to beef up on product knowledge.

“We want sommeliers behind the counter,” said Mariska.

Today she owns 3 separate coffeeshops across Amsterdam. She also founded Amsterdam Genetics, the seed bank behind all the products available at her shops.

Mariska’s passion for great service, professionalism, and top-shelf products runs through all of her businesses.

Amsterdam Genetics is renowned for producing exceptional genetics, that in turn are used to produce the best sun-grown flowers right here in Holland, it doesn’t stop there either these genetics are behind some of the finest hashes available on the market today.

At this year’s Highlife Cannabis Cup, their Tangerine G13 block hash won first prize in the hash category. Their Kosher Tangie block came in second.

Their most popular product, however, is their White Choco block hash, produced in Morocco from their very own White Choco plants. The hash is made using traditional dry sieving techniques, using only the first sieve to ensure the highest quality end product.

“It started with our White Choco cannabis,” Mariska said. “This strain was so popular in Amsterdam at one point that we could no longer meet demand. So I had to think like a true entrepreneur. Some fantastic producers from Morocco crossed our path who asked permission to cultivate our seeds there,” said Mariska.

While she was initially nervous about how her plants would adapt to Morrocco’s mountainous terrain, the moved proved to be extremely successful. The plants grew twice as large (in turn doubling their yield), and the local farmers were excited about the potential for more revenue.

“Don’t forget that an estimated million people in Morocco depend on the revenue of hash production,” said Mariska.

Mariska’s hard work and bold ambition is starting to challenge some of the traditional prejudices related to Amsterdam’s coffeeshops and the entire cannabis industry.

“The shady image that some people still wrongly associate with coffeeshops disappears very quickly if I start talking. Too many people don’t get that a coffeeshop is just a store. Apart from the backdoor problem, you can compare it to a wine shop,” she said.

White Choco - Amsterdam Genetics

White Choco, as mentioned above, is Amsterdam Genetics’ most popular strain. A 50-50 cross between White Russian and Chocolope, this is an extremely well-balanced strain with delicious flavor/aroma profiles.

While the strain is suited for both indoor and outdoor growth, it flourishes in the latter. Indoor plants usually grow between 120-150cm and produce average yields of roughly 400g per plant, while outdoor plants can reach up to 300cm tall and produce yields easily exceeding 600g.

White Choco plants usually flower within 9 weeks.

The buds produced by this strain feature a very distinct aroma with hints of chocolate, spice, and subtle sweet undertones.

As a 50-50 sativa/indica strain, White Choco produces a very uplifting high in small doses. In larger quantities, however, it produces much stronger physical effects that may induce sleep and hunger.

Kosher Tangie Kush - Amsterdam Genetics

Kosher Tangie Kush is a 60% indica-dominant strain cherished for producing a very long lasting body buzz.

As a cross between Kosher Kush and Tangie, this strain boasts really strong genetics, making for a great grow option for anyone looking for big yields and high THC levels.

Similar to White Choco, this strain flourishes in outdoor environments. Indoor plants usually grow between 120-150cm and produce yields of approximately 400g per plant. Outdoor plants, on the other hand, can reach over 200cm and produce yields of over 600g.

Flowering time for these plants is slightly longer, ranging between 9-10 weeks.

Kosher Tangie is a very aromatic strain, featuring a deliciously fresh aroma/flavour profile combining citrus and earthy notes. It is also extremely pungent.

This is a strain that, like many other indica-dominant strains, produces strong physical effects. With 21% THC, expect to be very happy and really relaxed.

AK47 Amsterdam Genetics

This is a classic strain with strong genetics linked back to Colombian, Mexican, and Afghani landrace strains. It has won over 19 awards, including first prize at the Highlife Cup in Barcelona.

Plants will grow between 120-150cm indoors and produce yields of roughly 500g per plant. Outdoors, expect to see extremely tall and bushy plants (sometimes reaching up to 300cm) and yields of 600g per plant.

The buds produced these plants are extremely beautiful, featuring a thick coating of trichomes and a generous sprinkle of red pistils.

They also boast a complex aroma, featuring strong sour, earthy notes, and taste extremely floral and slightly spicy.

This strain is treasured across the globe for producing very long-lasting relaxation and strong mental stimulation, making it ideal for people who are looking to stay creative, social, and productive while smoking.

Kosher Tangie Block - Boerejongens coffeeshop

While this product won’t be available through Zamnesia, it deserves a honourable mention nonetheless.

Made from the deliciously fruity Tangie strain, this hash boasts wonderfully concentrated flavours and aromas.

Produced in Morocco using traditional dry sift methods, Amsterdam Genetics’ Tangie Block hash leaves you feeling uplifted, euphoric, and relaxed.

All of Amsterdam Genetics’ hash varieties are made from the first sift, ensuring top-shelf quality and maximum concentration. To top it all of, the residue from the sifting is pressed when slightly warm, giving a beautiful golden colour.
