Banisteriopsis caapi: The Vine of the Spirits From The Amazon

Banisteriopsis caapi, the “vine of the spirits” is a jungle vine that is a native to the rainforests of South America. The indigenous peoples of the Amazon use banisteriopsis caapi together with other plants such as Psychotria viridis (chacruna) leaf or Chagropanga to make Ayahuasca, the highly psychoactive spiritual brew which allows humans to enter the spirit world in ceremonies and sacred rituals.

Banisteriopsis caapi contains various alkaloids and MAOIs such as harmine, harmaline and tetrahydroharmine which work in synergy with the other ingredients used for making Ayahuasca. The MAOIs in Banisteriopsis caapi allow the psychoactive compound DMT which is found in the other plants to make the brew such as Psychotria viridis to become orally active. It is also reported that the vine by its own has some psychoactive properties when consumed.

With our Banisteriopsis caapi seeds you can now grow the sacred spirit vine of the rainforest at home.

Know that cultivating the Ayahuasca vine from seed can take a very long time. Experience in cultivating and some patience may be required.

When you plant the Banisteriopsis caapi, make sure to use humus-rich and moist soil that is well-draining. Put the seeds in the soil with their wing end facing up and uncovered. Water well and frequently to ensure that the soil stays moist at all times. Banisteriopsis caapi with its origin in the tropical rainforest climate is quite hardy and tough but does not tolerate any frost. Once you plant your Banisteriopsis caapi seeds in optimal conditions you can expect them to sprout in about 3-4 weeks.

    Planted 3/10. Waiting for results
I planted one seed on a starter disc, monitored high moisture. Result: after 10 days i threw it away since it was covered in mold. I' m giving these guys a new try. I planted 2 in fertilized soil with high draining properties. I will try to monitor better the climate of germination. Overall these don't look like easy to germinate seeds, i guess some expertise is needed.

    The seeds seem old :(
None germinated despite the care and attention The seeds seem old
