Magic Mushroom Spore Syringes: Psilocybe Cubensis

A spore syringe is the most direct place to start: a syringe pre-filled with millions of spores in a sterile solution, needle included. There is nothing to transfer, you push the needle through the injection port of your substrate and inject the spores straight in. The light-brown, slightly cloudy liquid is meant to look that way, that is the spores themselves.

How to inoculate with a spore syringe

Shake the syringe so the spores spread evenly, flame or alcohol-sterilise the needle, and inject through the port into your sterilised substrate, whether that is a PF Tek jar, an agar plate or a ready-made bag. Split the contents across a few points for faster colonisation. Sterile technique is everything here: one ungloved hand or a dirty needle can spoil the whole batch, so a still-air box helps a lot.

Spore syringe, vial, print or liquid culture?

Spores come in a few forms, and the syringe is the simplest to start with because it is ready to inject. A spore vial is a refillable glass reservoir you draw from, better for study, collecting and filling your own syringes. A spore print is spores dried on foil, the longest-lasting way to archive genetics. And a liquid culture syringe holds living mycelium instead of spores, which colonises faster but suits more experienced growers.

Picking your strain

If it is your first grow, start with Golden Teacher or B+, which forgive most beginner mistakes. Each syringe holds a single strain, so you always know exactly what you are inoculating.
