Therapeutic bouquets, insect repellant and beneficial companion, lavender is your friend.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is certainly the most recognizable scent of all the herbs. Widely used in perfumery and the basis of a number of illustrious soaps and eau de toilettes the wonderfully purple flowers of the lavender plant are a beneficial bug magnet of the first-degree.
Lavender has long been kept in bouquet garnets under pillows by kings and queens and peasants alike to engender easy sleep and pleasant dreams. Lavender in the garden attracts several species of nectar feeding insects by filling the air with its signature bouquet. Mice which are notorious for ring barking cannabis plants by gnawing at the outer cambium of the stalks are repelled by lavender (and peppermint). Fleas, ticks and moths are also kept at bay and a sprig in your top pocket or tucked behind your ear will send gentle aromatic smiles your way all day.
Drought tolerant and prolific when well cared for, the breathtaking spears of flower clusters at their peak and their intrinsic value are why lavender has a rich folk history. When Tutankhamen's tomb was opened in 1922 it was a 3000 year old echo of lavender scented air that greeted the intrepid archaeologists. Egyptian lavender was praised in the ancient world with ancient Greek and Carthagian civilizations known for bathing in lavender scented water.

Weak against Seagulls
Planted these a couple of weeks ago, and they germinated very well. Unfortunately, on the balcony, seagulls have decided to use the pot as a beak sharpner and talon pillow, smushing them into the soil. After having a word with the seagull and setting up some defensive measures, they have sprung back to life, and im looking forward to seeing them in full bloom, and hope they dont smell of fish.
