Velvet Bean (Mucuna pruriens) is a vigorous annual climbing legume in the Fabaceae family. The plant is a strong, fast-growing climber with large pods densely covered in fine hairs, the species epithet pruriens reflects this, meaning "itching" in Latin. Seeds vary in colour and are borne in clusters along the pods. Dwarf bush cultivars also exist, though the climbing form is the most widely known.
