CHERVIL
In the language of flowers Chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium) symbolizes sincerity. This shade loving plant rarely grows larger than a sixty centimetre bush covered in tiny edible pale magenta or white flowers that present in umbels. The leaves are similar looking to parsley only of a finer cut and tastes somewhat like anise or mild licorice.
The ancient Romans used Chervil leaves and the thin white tap roots in salads and soups. Chervil is one of the four main herbs along with tarragon, parsley and chives that make up the classic delicate bouquet of "fines herbes" used for centuries in French cuisine. The plant is ready for use after 4-6 weeks of growth or when it reaches about ten centimetres. Plucking delays flowering, but it will certainly flower in summer, the tiny delicate flowers lighting up the shaded under-story of your companion planted cannabis.
Chervil is a great companion plant in a guild with dill and coriander. It repels aphids and is said to make radishes crisper and hotter. Chervil seedlings are too delicate to transplant so sprinkle seeds into a shallow furrow in their final shady location, they won't need to be covered with soil, simply water them in and keep moistened. In 7-14 days your Chervil will sprout and grow rapidly into a healthy bush. Trim regularly remembering to leave a few flowers to set for next year. Self seeded Chervil will return year after year.
