Great Mullein (Verbascum thapsus): the woolly-leaved giant of the hedgerow
Great Mullein stands out among garden and roadside plants for its size and texture. In its first year it grows as a low rosette of large, oval, grey-green leaves covered in soft, woolly hairs. In its second year it sends up a tall flowering spike lined with small yellow flowers, then dies back after setting seed. The species belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family and grows natively across Europe, Asia and North Africa, and has naturalised widely elsewhere. It's the leaf that goes into this pack, dried and shredded for easy use.
How to use mullein leaf
This pack holds 50 grams of dried, shredded mullein leaf. It can be used as a loose-leaf tea: add it to hot water and let it steep before straining out the shredded plant material. It also lends itself to a tincture, steeped in alcohol rather than water. The taste is soft and mild, closer to a background note than a bold flavour, so it works well on its own or blended with other herbs.
Not suitable for persons under 18. Insufficient data on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult a health professional when using medication, or if suffering from an illness or health complaint.
