Echinopsis cuzcoensis: Distinctive, Hardy & Easy to Grow

A striking native of the Cusco region

Discover the rugged beauty of Echinopsis cuzcoensis, a bold and captivating columnar cactus native to the mountainous regions of Cusco, Peru. Also known by its former name, Tichocereus cuzcoenisis, this species stands out in any cactus collection thanks to its striking spines, ribbed columns, and impressive height.

Cultivating the Cuzco cactus

Our cuttings of the Echinopsis cuzcoensis are taken exclusively from strong, healthy plants. Once placed in well-draining cactus soil, the cutting will quickly flourish and continue growing as if it had never been removed from the ground. When grown in the right conditions, Echinopsis cuzcoensis can reach over five metres tall, although potted specimens tend to remain a little more manageable in size.

Flowering at night, it produces large, white blossoms that can measure up to 16 cm long and linger into the morning hours. Though self-sterile, these plants can be cross-pollinated with compatible specimens to produce seeds. Overall, Echinopsis cuzcoensis is a highly resilient cactus that thrives with minimal water during colder months, even tolerating dips in temperature as low as -9°C.

A unique addition to any collection

This cactus is perfect for enthusiasts interested in rare and region-specific Trichocereus species. Whether you're expanding a collection or looking for a real statement to kickstart your garden, Echinopsis cuzcoensis is a rugged yet refined choice for all.
