French Touch Seeds: the range explained
Twelve strains, two very different halves. Here is what the French collective actually breeds and how to choose between them.
About French Touch Seeds
French Touch Seeds was set up in 2010 by a collective of French growers and still works that way. The name is not decoration: this is a French seedbank, and it is one of the few that has kept regular seeds and landrace varieties in the catalogue while most breeders moved to feminized-only ranges.
The landrace side
Their landrace programme reaches from the French island of Reunion to North Africa. The one we carry is Beldia, a Moroccan Rif variety, and it behaves like a landrace rather than a modern hybrid: 10 percent THC, up to 350 grams per square metre, the lowest numbers on this page by a distance. You grow it for what it is, not for yield. It is also one of only two regular strains here, alongside DeeDee.
The modern hybrids
At the other end sits Respeto, a Gelato and Respect cross at 30 percent THC. It is the strongest thing French Touch make and the only strain here rated hard to grow, needing 11 to 12 weeks of flowering, so it is not a first project. Respeto Confite follows at 26 percent over 9 to 10 weeks and is rated easy. Senmbelek Cookie, out of Mint Cookie and Motorbreath, is the biggest producer at up to 750 grams per square metre.
The French classics
Sativa Des Rois is built on an old-school AK-47. Frencheese comes from Super Skunk and Master Kush and smells like the cheese half of that cross, sour and sharp rather than sweet. Nuttea Haze crosses Amnesia with Champ'Haze and takes 10 to 11 weeks. Douce Nuit, from Northern Lights and Hindu Kush, is the quickest at 7 to 8 weeks, and it also exists as an autoflowering version, Auto Douce Nuit. French Runtz is the odd one out: a cross of Zamnesia Seeds' Runtz with French Touch's own Frencheese, at 25 percent.
Which one should you pick?
Short on time, take Douce Nuit at 7 to 8 weeks or the Guillotine Auto, which runs 9 to 10 weeks from seed. Want the highest THC, take Respeto and accept the difficulty. Want something you cannot get from a big commercial bank, take Beldia. Ten of the twelve are feminized, so only DeeDee and Beldia will need sexing.
