The OG Kush cannabis strain is an incredibly potent variety of medical Cannabis that is known for its appearance, distinctive aroma, and psychoactive effects that are long lasting and notably uplifting.

A hybrid cultivar that is mostly Cannabis Sativa with a small amount of Cannabis Indica mixed in, the OG Kush cannabis strain is very popular in Southern California and is found in many of the medical clubs around Los Angeles. This particular strain is not a traditional Kush strain because it has more Sativa characteristics and is known for its up type of high that is ideal for casual smokers and those who enjoy staying active during the day. For this reason, OG Kush is perfect for all-day smokers who need to maintain a level head during the day.

THE ORIGIN OF OG KUSH

The Origin Of OG Kush

According to rumors in the cannabis underground, the OG Kush cannabis strain is a clone-only variety that is genetically related to the infamous Chemdawg plant that hails from Colorado and Wyoming. According to the rumors, a cutting of the 91 Chemdog made its way to Lake Tahoe in the beginning of the 1990s, and OG Kush is a first generation plant that came from an hermaphrodite clone. Legend also holds that the Chemdawg strain originally came from a seed that was found in a bag that was sold at a Grateful Dead show in the 1980s. Two friends met at a concert, and thirteen seeds were found in an ounce of weed that Chemdawg purchased for $500. These seeds were later sprouted and were given the name Chemdawg in honor of the person who found the seeds. On the East Coast, the strain is closely related to the Sour Diesel strains, but on the West Coast, it is often known as Kush or OG Kush.

What Is The Meaning Of OG?

OG Kush is the World's most popular cannabis strain today, but have you ever wondered what the OG stands for? What exactly is OG Kush?

THE EFFECT OF OG KUSH

While the plant is not technically a Kush because it is not genetically related to plants from the Kush Mountains in Afghanistan, the species does exhibit some Indica characteristics. However, the plant is mostly known for its Sativa qualities as for its phenotypical traits and the psychoactive effects. Some people have described the OG Kush cannabis strain to have a cerebral high that is physical stimulating at the same time. The plant is known for its fresh lemony pine sol scent, and mature flowers on an individual specimen are very dense, large, and lime green. In addition, the flowers are covered in trichomes and appears white under close inspection.

HOW TO GROW OG KUSH

With a flowering time of eight to nine weeks, the OG Kush cannabis strain is an ideal option for indoor growing and quickly responds to increased nutrients that are high in phosphorous and potassium. Yields are typically on the higher end of the average spectrum, and growers can expect to bring in 400 to 500 grams per square meter of growing space. During the first few weeks of flowering, the OG Kush cannabis strain has a tendency to stretch, so it is advised to change the light schedule earlier for those who are gardening in confined spaces. On the other hand, many gardeners prefer to train their plants in a sea-of-green method.

OG KUSH BY DINAFEM

OG Kush - Dinafem

OG Kush is the cannabis world star from the US West Coast. Dinafem’s edition of OG Kush is a phenomenal specimen that is winning over more converts to the OG Kush cult. The finished product - frosty, lime green nugs with 20%+ THC levels and a stinking pine odour - won’t disappoint even the most demanding cannabis connoisseur. Expect to experience a powerful cerebral wave that reverberates through the body within tokes. These beans are bringing top-shelf dispensary dankness to the home grower.

Plants are pretty compact and typically need just 8-9 weeks to finish flowering. OG Kush is ideally suited to the SOG method indoors if space is at a premium. However, with a slightly longer vegetative growth cycle and some training and pruning, a cola-packed ScrOG can easily fill up larger grow spaces. In contrast with competitor’s offerings, this particular OG Kush does tend to stretch quite a bit during the bloom period.

Dinafem OG Kush is best described as a “stretch indica”. Untrained plants will exceed 1m in height, usually peaking around 1.2m or slightly taller. Trademark pungent earthy-pine aromas will be in the air, so make sure to freshen up that carbon filter.

THE OG #18 BY DNA GENETICS (RESERVA PRIVADA)

The OG 18 - Reserva Privada

For the discerning Kush connoisseur with a preference for sour-flavoured dankness, we recommend The OG #18. Reserva Privada (and DNA Genetics) struck sticky green gold when they discovered a distinctly sour-tasting and high-yielding phenotype of the legendary OG Kush, subsequently developing and fine-tuning this unique cultivar into the strain we know today as The OG #18.

The OG #18 definitely resembles Chemdawg in the grow room with her wide internodal spacing and vine-like growth. Plants grow vigorously during the vegetative phase, which is uncharacteristic for most OG Kush cuts. Moreover, little variation is expressed, and plants tend to grow like clones even from seed. SOG growers can switch to 12-12 after just 1-2 weeks and mature plants will peak in height at around 1.2m tall.

The OG #18 develops an impressive, dense, single trophy cola if left to fill out naturally. However, this strain can also be very productive for pruning and training enthusiasts seeking maximum yield. After 9-10 weeks of bloom, a uniquely sour head stash will be ready for harvest.
