Morgan Freeman Says: Legalize It!
Back in 2008, famous Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman suffered a catastrophic car accident that left him with a shattered shoulder, arm, and elbow. Whilst his bones may have since healed, Freeman is unable to fully recover, suffering from nerve damage that has left him with only partial control of his left hand. He also needs to wear a special glove to prevent blood from pooling.
Knowing this, it probably won’t surprise you to learn that this condition causes Freeman a lot of pain, for which he has uses marijuana to manage.
“Marijuana has many useful uses,” he says. “I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana. They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’”
Speaking on the merits of marijuana, and the growing momentum behind its legalization, he said:
“They used to say, ‘You smoke that stuff, boy, you get hooked! My first wife got me into it many years ago. How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming, and it’s getting legs—longer legs. Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use. Maybe if you have one drink it’ll quiet you down, but two or three and you’re fucked.”
This sentiment echoes a growing number of celebrities and prominent figures who are in favour of legalization. This ranges from people like the actor Susan Sarandon, who is now a member of the Marijuana Policy Project’s advisory board, to the Dalai Lama, a religious leader who feels marijuana should be legal for medical use.
The push for legalized weed is growing rapidly, and Morgan Freeman is another influential figure who has thrown his lot in with the good fight. We hope his voice inspires sceptical fans out find out the truth behind this beneficial plant, spur further change.
