Find The Right Vaporizer For You

Thinking about getting a vaporizer but don’t know where to start? We have put together a handy guide that should hopefully tell you what you need to know.

This is the 2015 edition, click here for the 2017 edition

Vaporising your weed can be a much more fulfilling and enjoyable experience than simply lighting up a joint, especially to those who are put off by smoke. However, there are absolutely tons of vaporizers out there, and choosing one that suits your needs can be pretty tricky. In fact, it is one of the main reasons people tend to stay away from them, as they can seem overly complicated and involved.

The truth is, there is a vaporizer out there for everyone. All it takes is a bit of knowledge on the subject to unlock this seemingly locked door. And trust us, once it’s open, you will likely wonder why you ever smoked your weed in the first place.

Of course, those who love the feeling of holding a joint in their hands may argue differently, but for most, vaporising is a much purer, higher quality, and enjoyable experience.

What’s all the fuss about then? What makes vaporizing so great? Well, it all comes down to combustion (mainly). When you smoke cannabis, the act of burning destroys much of the cannabinoid content (like THC and CBD), whilst also producing thousands of toxins in their place. Vaporizing does not cause cannabis to burn, instead heating it up to the point where the cannabinoids, flavonoids and other compounds are evaporated and released as a vapour – without any of the toxins, carcinogens or tar that result from burning weed.

As you can imagine, this is much healthier than smoking as it prevents harmful substances getting into your body, as well as maintains a much higher concentration of cannabinoids. Research even suggests that vaporizing your cannabis can even reverse the respiratory problems caused by smoking weed.

Other advantages include a lack of lingering odours, a richer flavour, a smoother experience, and better value for money.

The fact that vaporizers can save you money is often something that eludes people, as the initial cost of buying one can be quite a large outlay. However, as the vapour they produce is much purer, less weed is needed to get high. Some vaporizers can be up to a third more efficient than smoking, cutting down on the amount of weed you need, and thus cutting down on the amount you need to buy. For heavy users, a vaporizer can pay for itself within a year.

There are two types of vaporizers out there, these are conduction and convection vaporizers. Conduction vaporizers work by directly heating the cannabis, usually with a metal plate; whereas convection vaporizers heat up the air, which is then passed through the cannabis – without the heating element and cannabis ever coming in contact. Generally speaking, convection vaporizers are seen as more efficient, as they get a better coverage over the cannabis, are less likely to burn it, and produce a better vapour. However, convection vaporizers are usually much more expensive than their conduction brothers, making them less appealing to some.

So which vaporizer would suit you? Well, we have a few categories for you to look at.

If you want the crème de la crème of portable vaporizing, then you want to have a look at one of these.

Davinci Ascent

DaVinci Ascent
The Davinci is right at the top end of the market, and until very recently, was seen as the ultimate portable convection vaporizer. It has an extremely high quality build, can vaporize herb, oils and waxes, can provide up to three hours of continual vaping with one charge, has precise temperature controls with a bright OLED screen, utilizes a pure glass system to prevent contamination, and looks absolutely stunning. Not bad for something that sits snugly in your pocket!

Firefly Vaporizer

Why do we say that the Davinci Ascent WAS seen as the ultimate vaporizer until recently? Because now it has a little competition from this bad boy. Not to say one is better than the other, but things are very close now.

The firefly vaporizer is being heralded as a step forward in handheld vaporizing technology, utilizing new fast charging lithium-ion batteries, and instant convection heat – in theory making vaporizing as quick and straight forward as it has ever been. Combine this with its high quality build, beautiful look, and some of the best vapour around, and it is easy to see why people currently raving about the Firefly.

For those looking for a decent, mid-market portable vaporizer that will stand the test of time, here is what we recommend.

Arizer Solo

Arizer Solo
The Arizer Solo is one of the most popular and accessible convection vaporizers on the market. Why? Because it does exactly what it says on the tin. If you want an all-round decent and reliable vaporizer, then this is the one for you. It is well built, sleek, and produces a high quality vapour. Although not as fast to heat up as some vaporizers (roughly taking three minutes), its ability to produce a quality vapour with minimal fuss makes it ideal for anyone looking for a no-frills vaporizer that can stand by their side for years to come.

If you are looking to vaporize, but don’t have the cash to splash on a fancy model, then you could do no better than below.

Magic Flight Launch Box

Magic Flight Launch Box
The magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer is one of the smallest and fastest portable conduction vaporizers on the market today. It was created back in 2010, but is still a firm favourite that continues to delight with its simple, yet high quality build. You simply place your bud into the groove within the solid wood box, press the button, wait for the light, and then draw. Pure simplicity.

If you prefer to exclusively vaporise concentrates instead of dried herb, the following portable vaporizer is worth a look at.

Sutra Pen

Sutra Pen

Sleek and discreet, the Sutra Pen looks like a high end e-cigarette, and can often be used right in plain sight without anyone being the wiser. It's designed for vaporizing concentrated oils, and makes vaporizing cannabis concentrates a breeze. It comes with a quick charging lithium-ion battery, and a no fuss, easy to use set up.

For those of you not interested in portability, but prefer to focus on uncompromising features, then the below may be the one for you.

The Volcano Vaporizer by Storz & Bickel sits at the very pinnacle of modern convection vaporization, and is a prime example of German engineering at its finest. This vaporizer has it all, stunning looks, unrivalled build quality, precision temperature control, easy use, and a vapour quality that will impress anyone. Of course, such quality comes with a price tag, but if you want the best for your home, this is it.

Not great at keeping electronic vaporizers topped up with power? Perhaps you need to try the following.

Unlike the other vaporizer we have mentioned so far, the WISPR 2 doesn’t run on electricity. Instead this convection vaporizer runs off of butane, ensuring that as long as you have a refill bottle with you, you will never run out of juice. Not only is this nifty little vaporizer butane powered, it also looks pretty cool too – just make sure you use some high quality butane.

Have no money at all, but still want to vape. Don’t worry, there is still an option available to you.

Vapo 2

The vapo 2 is as basic as it gets, but has a suitably low price tag to match. This glass bulb conduction vaporizer relies on a butane lighter, and a bit of skill (or trial and error) to get right. But once you have learnt the ropes, you will wonder how you ever did without it.

Of the many vaporizers out there, we would happily recommend each and every one of these, depending on your needs. Of course, there are many others to choose from, all with their own merits. But hopefully know that you have read the above, you have a good understanding of vaporizers, know what you are looking for, and be able to do a little more research if any of the above don’t take your fancy. Happy vaping!
