Most of us have watched and laughed to the majority of the better-known movies for and about stoners. We are talking about films like "Pineapple Express", "The Big Lebowski", "Cheech & Chong", "Half Baked", "Friday", "How High" etc. Do they sound familiar? We bet they do! But, what if you and your pal get freaking high and want to watch a cool flick that you haven't seen before? For this occasion, we provide you with our top 5 list of stoner flicks you probably haven't heard of. Some of them actually involve weed smoking or people who are under the influence but most of them we included because they are fun to watch while being high. They are for stoners and not about them, one could say. If you enjoy watching weird movies that are a bit outside of the usual, then you will definitely enjoy our compilation. Let's get started!

1. AMERICAN ULTRA

This flick from 2015 starring Jesse Eisenberg (Mike) and Kristen Stewart (Phoebe) is about a stoner who finds out that he is a government agent. Doesn't that already sound like fun? Mike is planning to propose to Phoebe but then his life gets turned upside down. He is an experiment of the CIA and they now want to kill him to cover their tracks. But Mike gets activated and goes into beast mode, killing everything in his way. He's way too well-trained to be exterminated just like that. And way too high for them to handle as well! "American Ultra" is not your typical stoner movie because it involves brutality - albeit with a dose of humor - something that we usually don't associate with stoner flicks. But here you get the twisted charm with the bloodbath!

2. WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER

It's the last day of summer camp in 1981 and the camp counselors are trying to complete their unfinished business before the camp is over. "Wet Hot American Summer" is for sure a quirky movie! At first, it was a flop but later became something of a cult film because many of the featured actors are now quite famous. For example, in the flick from 2001 you can see Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler and many more. The first thing that is hilarious: The "teenage' counselors are played by these adult actors who are in their late twenties or early thirties. That alone makes for some grotesque comedy. The story even involves NASA, a dangerous waterfall rescue, love triangles, misfits, cool kids and, of course, the big talent show at the end. Weed smoking is implied, in fact, you think they are all high because of their strange actions and reactions. For those of you who can't get enough of this cult film, Netflix released a prequel series with almost the entire original cast of the movie.

3. FRANK

"Frank" is our first film on the list that has nothing to do with pot but due to its quirkiness and multifacetedness, it should please the humor of stoners very well. The movie is a comedy-drama or music-comedy that was released in 2014 at the Sundance Film Festival. Jon (Domhnall Gleeson) is a wannabe musician who joins an eccentric pop band called Soronprfbs. This band is led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender). He is a musical genius who wears an oversized paper-mâché mask on his head all the time and you never see his real face until the end of the movie. The flick deals with their struggle as a band of outsiders that get offered a gig at the famous SXSW-Festival. Although it is a fictional story, it is loosely inspired by the life of the English musician and comedian Chris Sievey. "Frank" is a bittersweet ode to pop music and one of those movies where you are torn between laughing your ass off, crying or just thinking: "WTF!?".

4. UHF

This one features some wacky humour and hilarious side gags! The unemployed visionary George, played by Weird Al Yankovic, becomes the manager of a public television station which becomes a huge success. "UHF" is filled with numerous movie quotes and tumultuous satire. It makes fun of the American genre cinema of the 80's, as well as the soap operas of American television. The tongue-in-cheek comedy is perfect for a funny evening with friends. This film has become quite a cult classic over time, just like "Wet Hot American Summer". It's these quirky flicks that aren't always are a huge hit at the box office but withstand the test of comedy time. If you think you have watched all funny movies out there and there is nothing left to explore, light up a fatty with your friends and be ready to laugh tears when you watch "UHF".

5. WARM BODIES

"Warm Bodies" is a highly unusual zombie film because it is told from the perspective of a zombie and also has romantic elements. But don't panic! It still delivers on the blood and brain front. The story is focused on the inner life of zombie R which is portrayed via interior monologues. It then is about how he encounters the human woman Julie and falls in love with her. What's unique about this flick, is that when the zombies eat brains they live through the memories and feelings of their victims, thus feeling alive again. The film shows what is possible in the genre of fantasy-romance. Like "UHF", it is quite satirical. If the romance factor turns you off in a zombie flick, you will be surprised at how hilarious and self-ironic the movie actually is. There is no kitsch involved here! It revives and refreshes the zombie genre in a great way. Some say it is on its way to become a cult classic as well. See the common thread in our list? What more could you want for a stoned night with quirky movies?
