3 min

Good weed and a good podcast can make your day. We’ve got 5 of the most entertaining podcasts that are best enjoyed while high to share with you. Whether you’ve got the giggles or a dose of consciousness expansion, there’s a podcast to go with that high.

The podcast has evolved to become a dominant force in entertainment. TV shows are for binge-watching, at least the good ones are. Sticking to a regular schedule is old hat. Trips to the cinema are uneconomic. You could snag a bargain flight abroad for less. Radio is basically just for elderly people. And newspapers have devolved into rough toilet paper. However, an interesting podcast is something you might find yourself listening to or watching regularly when it suits you. The following are the 5 most fun podcasts to enjoy while high.

THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE

Joe Rogan is a stand-up comedian and UFC commentator that has somehow figured out the secret of how to create a hugely successful show in the era of the “Internet of Everything”. The Joe Rogan Experience is probably the world’s most popular podcast. By the time this blog hits the web, the PowerfulJRE YouTube channel will likely have over 2 million subscribers. Diehard fans will probably slate us for being late to catch-on to this cool show. It’s been running for almost a decade and passed the 1000 episode milestone. Better late than never.

Long-form conversations where the host looks the guest in the eye make all the difference. A chill atmosphere and complete abandonment of standard interview protocol really works, allowing the show to morph into a genuine, uninhibited conversation between Joe and guest. And you would be amazed at the diversity of guests and how freely they speak. Usually, over a few joints and/or glasses of whiskey, everyone gets loose. Over the course of the 2-3 hour show, anything can happen.

Political correctness goes out the window and publicists’ advice is disregarded by the A-listers from the worlds of sports and entertainment that regularly feature as guests. But you’re just as likely to hear from carnivorous doctors, bowhunters, astronomers, and coyote experts as a famous guest. You really can’t go wrong with this one. Even if the guest is someone you think will be a dud, this show has the potential to pleasantly surprise you.

THE CHURCH OF WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW

Joey “Coco” Diaz and Lee Syatt are the hosts of probably the funniest, most addictive podcast on the planet. These two love to get high. Joey is a street-smart veteran stand-up comedian with a checkered past. Conversely, Lee is a young, up-and-coming comic with a pretty normal upbringing. The contrasting characters of this pair are absolutely hilarious to watch as they consume enormous doses of edibles during the show.

Featured guests are usually lesser-known comedians that are piled full of 100mg treats. Many have gotten so high that they were on the verge of passing out, to the great amusement of the hosts and the audience. But what makes the show amazing is the blend of sage advice and crazy stories you will hear.

Often, the funniest and most inspiring episodes are when they have no guest. The pair just get high as Joey recounts stories from his off-the-rail, drug-crazed criminal days during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Trust us, Uncle Joey will have you in stitches and get you thinking about how your own life is going. So smoke a number, listen to the Church, and you will feel “tip-top Magoo” (Joey says this phrase is slang for feel-good, but not something you can translate really).

RICH PLANET

If you’re in the mood for something that might challenge what you think you know about all kinds of stimulating subjects, Rich Planet is the show for you. This material definitely falls into the category of too hot for TV. You need to have an open mind going in. Best blaze up before you venture down this rabbit hole. Although not technically a podcast, it’s on YouTube, so same difference. You can watch or just listen to this intriguing show.

The host Richard Hall is one of the few genuine, boots-on-the-ground investigative reporters that deals in facts and evidence rather than opinions and sound bites. This dude is not afraid to tackle the most controversial subjects, from UFOs to the Madeleine McCann disappearance. Rich Planet is a head trip not to be missed.

DAN CARLIN’S HARDCORE HISTORY

Dan Carlin is the man making history cool again without distorting the facts or pushing an agenda. Hardcore History takes you to the blood-soaked battlefields of the days of empire. One episode could be completely different from the next, tackling subjects like “destroyer of worlds” with an exploration of the development of the atomic bomb. This show takes long-form to the extreme with some shows running 5+ hours. History is a story, and for it to be truly captivating, a passionate storyteller is an essential ingredient.

Carlin has an almost villainously good cadence for storytelling and can bring a tale to life with his voice. Be prepared to go deep and don’t beat yourself up if you still fall asleep. This one is best enjoyed when you’re baked around bedtime. You haven’t lived until Carlin rouses you from your slumber at 4am with an animated excerpt from the war diaries of Julius Caesar.

FADE TO BLACK

Fade to Black with Jimmy Church is a radio show similar to Coast to Coast AM that is gradually becoming a podcast. With frequent live shows on YouTube and the rest uploaded regularly, this one is really a hybrid. But what’s important and what makes this show great is you never know what you’re going to get. A few things are consistent; the host is cool and gives guests the time to get their point across.

Throughout the 1-2 hour interviews, which are more like chats between friends, all kinds of “High Strangeness” are guaranteed to come up. If you’re fascinated by the Fortean, then you’re already a Fadernaut. It’s up to you to determine what tales you believe to be true, or simply the delusions of the deranged. But with a few spliffs and an open mind, you’ll be entertained.
