Marc Scott "the Prince of Pot" Emery, publisher of the Cannabis Culture Magazine and founder of a marijuana legalization group, who had been arrested by the DEA on July 29th, 2005*) to serve a 5 year sentence for selling cannabis seeds to fund the marijuana legalization activism could be transferred to a Canadian prison soon.
With a writing from July 13, 2013, the US Department of Justice approved his transfer from the Yazoo City Medium Federal Correctional Institution to Canada. After Emery's legal council had confirmed this, his wife Jodie said, that she really hopes that the (Conservative) Canadian government approves all the paperwork quickly now, but so far the Canadian authorities have made no comment regarding Emery's transfer.
Emery's previous request to be transferred to a Canadian penal institution was rejected in 2011.
*)The day he was arrested, the DEA Administrator Karen Tandy released a statement in which one could read that his arrest was politically motivated and targeted Marc for drug trafficking and his activities as a marijuana legalization activist. According to Tandy the operation was a "blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in Canada and the U.S., but also to the marijuana legalization movement."
