Discovering Magic In Mushrooms

In magic mushroom lore, this particular strain of Psilocybe azurescens was discovered by Boy Scouts in Oregon. They first discovered them in the wild in 1979. By the mid-90s, these peculiar, intensely golden mushrooms were found across the Pacific Northwest. Study began on just how potent these psilocybe varieties of mushroom were.

The concentration of the psychoactive biochemicals psilocybin and psilocin is higher here than in any other mushroom. They reportedly produce intensely powerful hallucinations; transcendent journeys of great personal impact from as little as one gram. They must therefore be consumed safely and responsibly. It is important to know what to expect from psilocybe mushrooms and how they differ from each other.

Comparing Psilocybe Azurescens To Psilocybe Cyanescens And Cubensis

There are some differences between Psilocybe azurescens, Psilocybe cyanescens, and Psilocybe cubensis. Where azurescens thrives in dune grass and on deciduous wood, cyanescens grows best on coniferous wood. Cyanescens shrooms bruise into a bluish hue and are smaller, growing only 2-4cm wide compared to azurescens’ 10cm width. This means you will have to consume more of these to get the same high as you would from ingesting Psilocybe azurescens.

Psilocybe cubensis is the most popular species of psilocybin mushrooms and generally has a darker, more brownish colour than azurescens. Azurescens begins fruiting in late-September and continues even after the first frost occurs, until late December or even January.

While cubensis also emerges in September, their season is not as long as that of the azurescens - cubensis only lasts until November. Normally, Psilocybe cubensis grows to its maximum size in the two months prior to the hottest period in the year. They can be grown all year around, resilient in pretty much any warm, tropical environment.

They often grow as wide as 9cm with their bell-shaped caps, so just a tad smaller than azurescens. Also, as previously mentioned, cubensis is less potent that azurescens, due to lower amounts of psychoactive compounds.
