The gift of music is indeed a special blessing for people of all ages. It has many genres that draw people together from many different societies and cultures. Europe has a number of music festivals each year that bring thousands of people together to countries such as Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. Here are the best music festivals in Europe.
1. Laundry Day in Belgium
This fantastic music festival is an annual event that occurs one day of the year and is featured this year on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Located in Antwerp, it has 11 stages with 120 DJs. Expect crowds to be around 60,000. Among the bands that are performing include Laidback Luke, The Opposites, Steve Aoki and much more. Children under the age of 14 are required to attend with an adult who is at least 18. Keep in mind that Laundry Day is on for a literal 24 hours with the event beginning at midnight.
2. Dimensions Festival in Croatia
Dimensions Festival takes place on Thursday, September 5 through Monday, September 9. Located in the community of Pula next to the ocean, this festival gives people the perfect backdrop to hear wonderful tunes from the dance and electronic genre. There are other events that people can enjoy that include boating excursions that occur daily. Featured artists include Mr. Scruff, Jimmy Edgar, Moxie and Mount Kimbie.
3. Mysteryland Festival in Netherlands
The Mysteryland Festival is an annual event that is one day and this year is on Saturday, August 24, 2013. This festival, which is located in Haarlem, was first established in 1993 and has continued to grow and now receives about 70,000 attendees. A large portion of the music is dance and electric and highlights entertainers like Showtek, Steve Angello and Tiga. The minimum age for the event is 18.
4. Creamfields UK in UK
One of the best dance music festivals in the UK is Creamfields, which is Friday, August 23 to Saturday, August 24, 2013. This festival is in Halton. Expect about 80,000 concert goers to this intense event. There are plenty of talents DJs as well as live acts. Popular bands that will be performing include Sub Focus, Jaguar Skills and David Guetta.
5. V Festival Hylands Park in UK
This popular festival has a variety of genres that concert goers will enjoy that is on Saturday, August 17 to Sunday, August 18, 2013. The festival, which is in Chelmsford, has about 75,000 people attending the event. Entertainers performing at the festival include Beyonce, the Kings of Leon and The Pigeon Detectives.
6. Lowlands in Netherlands
On Friday, August 16 to Sunday, August 18, 2013, the community of Biddinghuizen receives about 55,000 people to enjoy the Lowlands festival of music. There is a wide variety of music on 10 stages including metal, rap, rock and folk music. Entertainers this year of nearly 200 acts include Empire of the Sun, Franz Ferdinand and the Band of Horses.
7. Pukkelpop in Belgium
Each summer since 1985, the Pukkelpop festival has entertained audiences and continues this year from Thursday, August 15 to Saturday, August 17, 2013. About 50,000 people will enjoy music in Hasselt from genres like rock, rap, and dance. Popular artists include Eminem, The xx, Bonobo and Opeth. Camping facilities at the event are free.
8. Frequency Festival in Austria
Concert goers attend this special festival each August and this year it is on Thursday, August 15 to Saturday, August 17, 2013. Although it originally was near Salzburg, it has been meeting in St. Polten since 2009. Among the genres of music include rock and dance. Musical artists performing this year include System of a Down, Kraftklub and Franz Ferdinand.
9. Dreambeach Festival in Spain
One of the newest festivals in Europe is the first annual Dreambeach, which goes from Friday, August 9 to Saturday, August 10, 2013. Located in Dreambeach Villaricos, this event has a large selection of electronic music that is next to the beach. Entertainers include Timo Maas, The Prodigy, Goracioc Cruz and Ben Sims.
10. Sonne Mond Sterne in Germany
This festival features some of the best dance and electronic music in Europe and is on Friday, August 9 to Sunday, August 11, 2013. 30,000 concert goers will be meeting at Saalburg-Ebersdorf to hear artists such as Matt John, Chase & Status, Seeed and more. Since it began in 1997, the event has grown significantly and offers memorable entertainers.
11. Sziget Festival in Hungary
The Sziget Festival is an annual event that brings over 70,000 people together for the weeklong event, which is on Monday, August 5 through Monday, August 12, 2013. Located in Budapest, this event enables people from the city as well as other places around Europe and the world to come for the entire festival or for a couple days. Notable entertainers include Franz Ferdinand, Erno, the Editor and Peter Bjorn and John.
12. Sudoeste Festival in Portugal
Each August, the Sudoeste Festival has entertained thousands of fans. This year, the five-day event is from Wednesday, August 7 to Sunday, August 11. Located in Zambujeira do Mar, about 30,000 people come together to hear genres like rap, dance and folk music. Three stages play continuous music and feature entertainers like Calvin Harris and Donavon Frankenreiter.
