Blue Dream: The Most Popular Strain Where Weed Is Legal

The legal cannabis market is an unexplored frontier, with surprises abound. One such surprise is the cannabis strain that is selling the most: Blue Dream.

The stats are in. In places where weed is legal, there is one clear champion strain to rule them all. You would be excused for assuming it is one of the titans of the cannabis world, like OG Kush or Amnesia Haze, but they have been beaten by Blue Dream.

The news comes from BDS Analytics, a firm working within the cannabis industry that analyses all of the market data it can get its hands on. They have now assessed everything there is to analyse about the sales records of cannabis since legalisation in places like Colorado and Washington, and Blue Dream wins in both locations.

In Washington, Blue Dream is twice as popular as its nearest rival, Cherry OG; and nearly three times as popular as the third place, Dutch Treat. When it comes to Colorado, Blue Dream enjoys similar popularity, far outstripping Durban Poison and Sour Diesel – the second and third place respectively.

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT BLUE DREAM?

So why is Blue Dream going down such a treat? It certainly doesn’t have the kick of an OG Kush or the mind-launching power of Amnesia Haze. Well, according to Roy Bingham, CEO of BDS Analytics, it could be down to clever marketing. While this will certainly play a part in helping growers and dispensary goers make up their mind, we are certain there must be more at work here.

Blue Dream, while not the most potent strain around, still has a hell of a lot going for it. To begin with, she is a strain renowned for huge yields and high resilience. It is not unknown for an expert grower to be able to get near 1KG per plant when grown under a 1000w light, or outdoors in ideal conditions. Her high resilience also helps her stave of powdery mildew, adding a certain attraction to those looking for an easy grow. The combination undoubtedly appeals to growers across the spectrum – especially novices wanting top shelf bud with an easy ride.

There is also the terpene content that needs to be taken into account. In addition to the reasonably potent cannabinoid content, lab tests have shown Blue Dream contains a lot of myrcene, caryophyllene and terpinolene. This creates a wonderful hazy flavour that combines sandalwood with sweet berry undertones. It is an aroma that has made Blue Dream very popular with connoisseurs, and ideal for making concentrates from.

Anecdotally, it is also pretty good at alleviating headaches, anxiety and cramps. As the high is sativa based, but not too potent, it induces a pleasant and motivating uplift, that allows people’s inspiration to flow and get on with the day. For the majority of people, this is likely to be preferable then getting baked off your face.

Irrespective, this underdog has surprised many with the news that it is the most popular strain out there in the legal weed world. We are not sure if it is a trend that will hold, but one thing is for certain, Blue Dream has cemented is place as one of the all-time greats!
