CBD is on the rise, and the big seed banks know it. CBD Chronic is the latest and we had a look at it at Spannabis.

Spannabis is a great opportunity to learn all of the up and coming exciting strains of the year; so quite understandably, we took to the stalls to catch up with a few seed banks to see what they had to offer. One strain that particularly stood out was Serious Seed’s new CBD Chronic, a CBD focused strain with big yields and a 1:1 CBD/THC ratio.

Serious Seeds are a Dutch seed bank steeped in history, and well known for their breeding prowess. CBD Chronic is there first CBD strain to become a permanent feature of their catalogue and has been given the seal of approval by CBD Crew. To give you a bit of background on what that means for this strain, it is worth knowing that, as the name suggests, CBD Crew have a pinpoint focus on quality CBD production. Before they endorse any strain of cannabis, they require the grower to send them ten separate samples, and each sample must return a test result of at least 4% CBD or higher. The fact that CBD Chronic has achieved this is a testament to its quality.

CBD Chronic (Serious Seeds) Fem.

CBD Chronic is the blend of Chronic x Remedy, producing a cannabis strain able to induce a clear and functional high. When speaking to the guys at the Serious Seeds stand, I was told they had chosen to use their chronic as a parent for a very particular reason. They realised that a lot of CBD users make concentrates from their bud, so in order to maximise the amount of bud produced, they wanted to use a strain known for its huge yields. Chronic is known for just this, so by including its genetics, they give users the tools to make the most of their grow.

In terms of actual characteristics, CBD Chronic has a flowering time of 56-63 days and can produce yields of up to 600g/m². To truly appreciate the potential of this plant, the fellas at Serious Seeds told me it was a good idea to allow the plant to sit in a vegetative state for roughly 4-5 weeks before allowing her to start flowering. Outdoors, CBD Chronic is usually ready for harvest mid/late October.

The bud produced by CBD Chronic averages a CBD content of 5.8% while THC averages 5.4%. The resulting high is one of clear-headed functionality. The CBD and THC balance each other out, ensuring the high is not intensely psychoactive, instead giving users a nice mellow experience. It makes it ideal for those wanting CBD without getting mixed up in a strong THC high. In terms of flavour, I found the smoke to have an earthy taste with a slightly fruity hint.

All in all, I have to say, Serious Seed’s first foray into the CBD side of the market is a successful one. Growers looking to try some CBD goodness, and who want the genetic quality that goes hand in hand with this seed bank, should consider picking these seeds up – CBD chronic will be well worth their time.
