How To Make A Marijuana Mojito

An exhaustive guide on how to make a mind-bending marijuana cocktail.
Mojito is a drink made from rum, sugar, lime and mint. It was made in Cuba centuries ago and has been introduced to the world thanks to Ernest Hemingway’s drinking habits. The word mojito stems from the African word “mojo” meaning “to cast a little spell”. When you take the already great mojito and infuse it with cannabis what you get is nothing short of magic.
CANNABIS INFUSED RUM
The cannabis mojito is made from cannabis infused rum. If unable to purchase such rum you needn’t worry, it can easily be made. If you already have, or can buy the aforementioned rum and don’t want to go through the joy of making your own feel free to skip this paragraph and be on your way of making mind boggling cannabis mojitos.
To make cannabis-infused rum you will need nothing more some light rum and cannabis. The ratio of marijuana to rum is completely up to you, as is the choice of the strain of marijuana you use. What we find best is using 5 grams of a high-grade sativa hybrid with a liter of rum. For best effect marijuana should be cured.
If you mixed such “raw” marijuana with rum or anything else for that matter you wouldn’t really feel it. Even though some claim there is a benefit to eating such marijuana there is no doubt that the high is absent. Raw marijuana is very poor with THC, and CBD for that matter. What raw marijuana has is THCA and CBDA which are acidic variants of the cherished cannabinoids, a cannabinoid with a carboxyl group attached to it. To remove the carboxyl groups you either have to wait for a very long time (that is why cured cannabis has more THC present) or expose the cannabis to heat. That process of exposing the cannabis to heat is called decarboxylation and thankfully, it is fairly simple.
Decarboxylation:
• Break your buds into smaller pieces with your hands. You can use a grinder but it is unnecessary.
• Preheat your oven to 110°C.
• Place the marijuana on a baking sheet. It is advisable to use parched paper as it eases further manipulation and reduces mess
• Place the baking sheet with marijuana inside the oven for 40 minutes
• Voila! You have potent decarboxylated marijuana.
Now it is only a matter of mixing the rum with the golden brown decarboxylated weed. We used a big glass jar, but if u have any other ideas feel free to try them out, as it makes little difference. Store the jar in a dark and dry place at room temperature for at least four days but it can be kept that way for up to three weeks. You can experiment with time to get the flavour and potency you desire. In our experience the more time you let your mixture sit the more potent it is but some bitter flavors also likely to develop.
This whole process is done with rum, but there is no obstacle in doing it any other alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, as will be the case with the non-alcoholic mojito.
THE MOJITO
As drinking in solitude is frowned upon, the given ingredients are for two marijuana mojitos. If you insist on doing it alone but you still made more than one mojito you should know that the high is very strong and comes with some delay. Now when you have been properly warned of all possible pitfalls let’s get to it.
Ingredients:
• 60ml or 2 shots of marijuana-infused rum
• Fresh mint leaves
• 2 teaspoons of white sugar
• A fresh lime
• Bitters
• Ice
• Club soda
You need 2 medium sized glasses, in my case that were 1.5dcl glasses. First, add a teaspoon of sugar to each of the glasses. Then squeeze the juice from a half of a lime and add it to the glasses. A dash of bitters is added next, and then some 3 to 5 fresh mint leaves. The mixture should be crushed using a wooden pestle or if you don’t have one, anything resembling it. After you have successfully crushed the mixture add a few ice cubes and then pour 30ml (a shot) of marijuana rum. Top off the cocktail with club soda. All that is left is fancying up the cocktail with some cool looking straws and a slice of lime.
A virgin version of the marijuana mojito can be made by substituting the marijuana rum for some sweet flavored marijuana soda.
Once you follow these steps in front of you will stand two glasses of pure awesomeness. My name is not Harry but after two of these, I sure felt like a wizard. Have fun!
