THC syrup is a delicious and novel way to enjoy THC. It can be added to food and drinks, or taken sublingually for faster effects, making it a versatile ingredient and a discreet means of consumption all wrapped into one sugary mass. Find out how to make it yourself at home!

THC syrup is a cannabis-infused product that combines the potency of THC with the ease and versatility of a liquid sweetener. It makes for a straightforward and often tasty way to quickly and discreetly ingest THC. This simple concoction can be used in various ways, such as enhancing beverages, topping desserts, or even as a direct sublingual application for a faster effect.

In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of making your own THC syrup, ensuring that even first-timers can achieve great results. It’s pretty easy to do—just follow the instructions carefully so that each step goes as it should.

What is THC syrup?

What Is THC Syrup?

THC syrup is a cannabis-infused liquid that combines THC with a syrupy base, typically made from sugar and water, or glycerine. It’s similar in consistency and sweetness to conventional syrup, such as simple syrup used in cocktails, but it contains THC and can therefore cause a powerful high—making it significantly more exciting than conventional sweeteners!

THC syrup is designed to be versatile and easy to use, offering a discreet and convenient way to consume cannabis. One of the great boons of this creation is that it can be added, ad hoc, to a range of different food and drink. It can be added to cosy hot drinks or complex cocktails, used as a topping on foods, or taken sublingually (under the tongue) for faster absorption into the bloodstream. This method of consumption is particularly popular among those who prefer not to inhale cannabis smoke or vapour, providing a smoke-free alternative that still delivers the desired effects of THC.

The effects of THC syrup will vary somewhat depending on the dose, the potency of the cannabis used to create it, and, of course, individual tolerance. It typically provides the same effects as other THC products, including euphoria, relaxation, and the munchies. However, depending on how it is ingested, the onset and duration of the effects can differ.

A note on method of ingestion

A Note On Method Of Ingestion

If THC syrup is taken sublingually (placed under the tongue, where THC swiftly diffuses through the oral mucosa into the bloodstream), the effects will come on in a matter of minutes and will last a couple of hours or so.

However, if a large amount of THC syrup is ingested orally (swallowed), the THC must first pass through the stomach and liver before crossing the blood–brain barrier. During this process, the majority of THC is converted into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is substantially more potent. This process ultimately results in effects that take 30–90 minutes to come on, and that last significantly longer than those of sublingually administered THC.

All of this is to say that you should be aware that THC syrup may affect you differently depending on the method of ingestion.

How To Use THC Syrup

THC syrup can easily be put to good use, whether you’re on the go or you fancy making a deliciously sweet meal or drink. Mainly, you should follow your instincts when it comes to using this ingredient—it’s just a sweet addition after all—but here are a few ideas to get you started.

As a simple syrup

THC syrup is an excellent alternative to regular syrups and sweeteners, allowing you to infuse a touch of cannabis into a variety of dishes while enjoying the added sweetness (all the while getting high)! Its versatility makes it a perfect companion for many types of meals, especially breakfast items and desserts. Just be careful not to overdo it if you use it for breakfast!

  • Pancakes and waffles: Drizzle THC syrup over your morning pancakes or waffles for a psychoactive start to your day—just go steady. The syrup merges well with the fluffy texture of pancakes and the crisp edges of waffles, enhancing the overall taste while providing the effects of THC. This is a very American way to start the day, and can be great if you’re in for a lazy weekend, or maybe looking to blow away a hangover.
  • Fruit salads: If you're looking for a healthier option, mix THC syrup into a fruit salad instead. The natural flavours of the fruits combine beautifully with the sweetness of the syrup, creating a refreshing and health-conscious dessert or snack that still packs the punch of THC. This can be particularly enjoyable in the summer when a cool fruit salad can be both soothing and satisfying—and then you can settle in for a long, lazy evening in the sun.
  • Yoghurt and porridge: For those who enjoy a hearty breakfast, adding THC syrup to yoghurt or oatmeal is an excellent way to incorporate cannabis into your diet, although it might slow down the start to your day. The syrup will sweeten these typically bland foods and can complement additional toppings like nuts, berries, or granola, making for a nutritious and soothing meal.

THC syrup can transform ordinary drinks into delightful, psychoactive treats. Here's how you can integrate this versatile syrup into various beverages to make them even more invigorating.

  • Tea and coffee: Start your morning with a unique twist by adding THC syrup to your cup of tea or coffee, and combine the effects of THC with those of caffeine. Whether you prefer a soothing herbal tea or a robust espresso, a little THC syrup can enhance both the flavour and the overall experience of your morning routine. Or it could slow you down, so make sure you act responsibly!
  • Cocktails and mocktails: THC syrup is a fantastic ingredient for creating cannabis-infused cocktails and mocktails. Whether you're hosting a party or enjoying a quieter night with a friend or two, you can use THC syrup to add a kick to your favourite alcoholic and non-alcoholic recipes. For example, a cannabis-infused mojito or a non-alcoholic fruit punch can offer tasty, fruity flavours alongside the enjoyable effects of THC. Experiment with different combinations to find the perfect balance of sweetness and potency.
  • Smoothies: For a health-focused approach, blend THC syrup into your smoothies. Combine it with fruits, vegetables, and your choice of milk or juice to create a nutritious and energising drink that also delivers the benefits of cannabis. This is particularly appealing for those who want to consume THC discreetly and conveniently while on the go.
  • Hot chocolate and other warm drinks: During colder months, adding THC syrup to hot chocolate, hot apple cider, or chai can provide a comforting warmth and a relaxing high. The syrup blends smoothly with the rich flavours of these hot drinks, and will make for an all-round comforting experience.

Use THC syrup sublingually

For faster absorption and onset of effects, THC syrup can be used sublingually. Place a few drops under the tongue and hold for 30–60 seconds before swallowing. The THC will at first be absorbed by the mouth’s mucous membrane, meaning it will enter the bloodstream quickly.
