Chuchuhuasi (Maytenus macrocarpa) has been used by the native people of the Amazon rainforest for hundreds of years as a traditional form of medicine. Roughly translating as “trembling back”, Chuchuhuasi's main use has been for the treatment of back pain and arthritis. The indigenous people of the Amazon are known to drink it daily within a sugar cane rum tonic in order to help with daily aches and pains, as well as to improve their stamina and maintain their sexual mojo. To produce this tonic they soak the bark in the rum in order to extract its properties. This has become a popular tourist drink known as “go-juice”, named for its revitalizing properties.
Active Ingredients of Chuchuhuasi
Chuchuhuasi (Maytenus macrocarpa) has a plethora of active ingredients. There are four main compounds though that it is well known for. These are mayteine, maytansine, dammarane and friedelane. These combine with the lesser active ingredients to make a very healthy “super food”.
Effects of Chuchuhuasi
The effects Chuchuhuasi are many and varied. The main effects you will experience are reduced inflammation, pain relief, an enhanced immune system, relaxed muscles, increased adrenal support and an increased sex drive.
The properties of Chuchuhuasi are also known to stimulate digestion, help prevent tumors and help kill cancerous cells; however, these are to a lesser extent than the above main effects.
Dosage, Preparation and Use of Chuchuhuasi
The traditional method of use is to drink a Chuchuhuasi solution every day before breakfast. This must be done for at least a month for it to be effective.
The best way to prepare a Chuchuhuasi drink is to boil one tablespoon of Chuchuhuasi in 1 liter of water for 20 minutes, this makes a Chuchuhuasi tea. Strain the mixture and leave in the fridge to chill overnight.
Once you have the mixture, it is best to drink 250ml 3 times a day, in between meals.
There are no known health warnings for Chuchuhuasi. It is a legal dietary supplement. As with all dietary supplements, pregnant or lactating users should consult a health professional before use.
