Cactus of the Four Winds (Echinopsis lageniformis forma quadricostata)

The sacred four-ribbed Cactus of the Four Winds that the natives call Achuma or Wachuma, like the four-leafed clovers, is considered extremely rare. The cactus is said to have special curative powers that are expressed in the four ribs that stand for the “four winds” or “four roads”, representing the cosmic axis linking the different worlds through which the Shaman travels in vision and trance.

It is believed that the sacred Cactus of the Four Winds was possibly the major source of religious impulse in ancient culture throughout the Andes region. Legend says that whoever found the sacred, four-ribbed cactus is a great shaman or would be destined to become one. The sacramental use of the powerful hallucinogenic plant can be traced back in history for at least 4,000 years.

MESCALINE

Several cactus varieties can possibly grow as the very rare and desirable Cactus of the Four Winds with the characteristic four ribs, including the San Pedro cactus (Echinopsis Pachanoi) or the Peruvian torch (Echinopsis peruviana). Our Cactus of the Four Winds, Echinopsis lageniformis forma quadricostata is the Bolivian Torch variety of the cactus, said to be the most potent of the sacred cacti with the highest percentage of mescaline.

The psychoactive substance in the sacred cacti is mescaline which is known for inducing strong psychedelic and hallucinogen effects. The consumption of flesh of the cactus causes powerful visions, an altered point of view and perception of the surrounding world, feelings of enchantment and a deep connectivity to mother nature and the whole planet.

It is noteworthy to mention that the consumption of mescaline-producing cacti will cause a vomiting fit, but this is temporary and is seen by the indigenous users of the plant as an important cleansing, a necessary purge of the past where you shed all remnants that could otherwise have a negative influence for the trip, cleansing the way to a new life.

Because of this, it is recommended that you don’t consume any foods for at least 6 hours before your planned trip. Not only will this help you feel better, it will also help that the cactus buttons you consume will stay in your stomach longer so you can absorb more of the active substance before your stomach finally turns upside down.

CULTIVATING THE CACTUS OF THE FOUR WINDS

The cuttings we offer are from exceptionally healthy and strong cacti which makes it easy to cultivate them at home. Cultivation of The Cactus of the Four Winds is essentially the same as with our Bolivian Torch cactus. All you need to know is that you should use special cactus soil that you can get in any well-sorted gardening store. Keep in mind that cacti are desert plants, which means that you water them very sparingly. Just let the cactus absorb enough for its needs. The best way to do this is when you plant them in a well-draining pot that you set in a shallow tray that you only occasionally fill with some water at the bottom. Have the soil absorb just enough water so its saturated, this will stimulate root growth of the cactus. In the colder season, the cactus can easily go with 2-3 weeks between waterings while you may need to water on a weekly basis in the hot months of summer.

When you get your Cactus of the Four Winds cuttings, the first thing that you should do is put it in a shady spot for about four weeks so that the cactus can grow its roots and can get accustomed to its new environment. There is no need to water in the first 2-3 weeks.
