Yarrow is not just pretty, it attracts the whole list of good guys to your garden

YARROW

A diverse garden means a healthy garden and the bright splashes of colour given by Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) will be a welcome addition to your other resinously beautiful flowers. Yarrow clumps and spreads and produces magnificent spears which bloom and attract beneficial insects to your patch.

Ideally planted around garden edges so the roots don't compete overly much, Yarrow is said to increase essential oil production in neighbouring plants. This is great news for the cannabis gardener as essential oils is what it's all about when it comes to marijuana.

The annual Yarrow plant throws out the welcome mat to predatory species like ladybugs, hoverflies, aphid lions and a host of parasitic mini wasps that will ravage the bad bugs in your garden. Don't stress at minor infestations of bad guys. The beneficial bugs get the memo way before you do. Just chill to nature's rhythm. A little bit of damage is okay just to keep the balance. Yarrow is pretty and functional, but not very tasty. Although young leaves can be used in salads for their bitter tang and the flowers are used as a hop substitute in brewing.
