Dill is your insect repellant in the garden and super spice secret weapon in the kitchen

DILL

Dill (Anethum graveolens) is a delicate flowering herb that is related to carrots and fennel. Make sure you don't plant Dill near either plant as they can cross pollinate and wreck next year's seeds. Apart from that simple caution dill is easy to grow and is an ideal companion plant for many other species including cannabis.

A favourite in potato or egg salads it adds a special flavour to anything creamy. Try it in your next au gratin, bechamel or sauce blanche to take them to another level of tasty. Really, friends and family will want to know the secret to your new found culinary prowess the effects of this humble herb are so noticeable. But very subtle. A Dill is also Australian slang for a silly person. Knocks bong over, "You big dill".

In your garden Dill attracts beneficial creatures like honeybees and hoverflies, Ichneumonid wasps and other beneficial wasps. Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars love dill and will preferably nibble there rather than your baby girls, so dill is a great deterrent. Dill is an effective repellant for aphids, cabbage looper, squash bugs and importantly where cannabis is concerned, spider mites.

Not a big fan of being potted on, plant your dill seeds directly into their permanent home. Sprinkling on and raking in and a splash of aqua is all that is required in late spring or early summer. If you let your dill go to seed and naturally cast then fresh dill will pop up every year in a spot that it prefers.
